I’m not a hockey guy, but I very much enjoyed seeing Alex Ovechkin break Wayne Gretzky’s monumental NHL goals record on Sunday. It got me thinking, though … Are any of the all-time NFL records within striking distance for an active player? | |
Let’s take a look …
Which NFL Records Could Be Broken?
🥇 Tom Brady holds the NFL record for all-time passing yards with 89,214.
Considering the closest active QB to him is a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, who is 26,262 yards behind him, I don’t see this one getting broken anytime soon.
🥇 Emmitt Smith sits atop the all-time NFL rushing yards list with 18,355.
Derrick Henry is the closest active RB with 11,423 yards. He’d need to average around 1,750 rushing yards for the next four seasons to chase it down. I’ve gotten in trouble fading the Big Dog over the years, but I feel confident saying he won’t chase down Emmitt.
🥇 Jerry Rice is the all-time receiving yards leader with 22,895.
Mike Evans, who has strung together 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, has 12,684 career yards. He would need to maintain that same pace for 10 more seasons to eclipse Rice.
So ya, don’t go holding your breath for an Ovechkin/Gretzky-esque moment in the NFL anytime soon.

Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter … Teammates Once Again?
It’s possible. Maybe not probable, though maybe it is … if you ask Thor Nystrom.
In his latest two-round mock draft, he has the Browns making waves in the draft and working the trade lines in order to team up Shedeur Sanders with his former WR1 once again.
The crazy part? That might not even be the most interesting take in this mock.
Whether it’s Sanders-Hunter in Cleveland, Cam Ward-Emeka Egbuka in Tennessee, or Tyler Warren being the first tight end taken in the top five since Kyle Pitts … this draft has it all.
So buckle up. It’s going to get hectic, and we’re here to guide you through it all. 👇
You Just Had To Be There, Man
Like tales of FOMO from college, routes tell us who was part of the story during a game. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean our receiver was the main character—just being there doesn’t equate to action. Hence, we should expect a weaker connection between routes and fantasy points.
That said, recognizing in-season route trends can lead to league-winning results … and there are some perfect examples from 2024. 👀👇
