It’s been almost two weeks since the NFL Draft, and my head is still spinning from what the Chicago Bears did.
With their investments in TE Colston Loveland in Round 1 and WR Luther Burden in Round 2—and lack of investment at RB (sorry, Kyle Monangai truthers)—they’ve forced fantasy gamers to completely rethink how we value their offense.
If there’s one thing we don’t need to question, it’s that the outlook for Caleb Williams has greatly improved (more on that from Dwain below in his rankings risers/fallers piece). But outside of that, all I have are questions …
Is Burden the new DJ Moore?
Should we be scared about Rome Odunze?
Is D’Andre Swift a locked-and-loaded RB1?
Remember Cole Kmet?
Backup QB Tyson Bagent’s dad is an arm wrestling world champion.
OK, that last one isn’t a question, I just wanted to make sure you didn’t forget.
For what it’s worth, I’ve been approaching Moore and Odunze with extreme caution in drafts as their price (rightfully) continues to drop.
The Burden pick feels like a shot across Moore’s bow after his effort was called into question last year and there’s legit bust risk with Odunze after he failed to eclipse more than a 17% target share.
The dust in Chicago is far from settled—could the Bears sign a guy like J.K. Dobbins?—so this is a situation we’ll be monitoring closely.
